- The current classic model began life as the 1895s Sporter. Same as the new model in 1972 except with a pistol grip stock and curved lever.
- Available from: 1980 - 1983 (1895S), 1984 - 1989 (1895SS), 1990 - Present (1895)
- Cartridges: .45-70
- Notes: In 1984 Marlin introduced the cross bolt safety (CBS) which changed the nomenclature from the 1895S to the 1895SS. New Model 1895S Sporter (1980-1983, New Model 1895SS Sporter (1984-1989).
