by Scott Crawford - July 26, 2021
- 1st Lever Action introduced by Henry Firearms (S/N 17 pictured above)
- Available from: 1860 - 1866
- Cartridges: .44 Rimfire
- Notes: It was Mr. Henry who conceived the first practical, lever action repeating rifle patented in 1860. The original Henry was a sixteen-shot .44 caliber rimfire breech-loading lever-action rifle. Produced by New Haven Arms until 1866 when Winchester bought the rights and changed the name of the company. With its reliable .44 caliber rimfire metallic cartridge, the Henry produced a rapid and highly accurate fire. Reports of the successful use of Henry rifles in the Civil War were numerous.
